什么是私人奖学金?

私人奖学金 (also known as Outside 奖学金) are offered by sources outside of the University. Students may apply for these types of scholarships from businesses, 组织, 民间团体, 高中, 宗教组织, 还有很多其他机构.

Students apply for these scholarships on their own by communicating directly with the agency offering the award.

  1. Students should contact their high school guidance counselor's office during their senior year of high school, to determine if there are any scholarship opportunities available. Many 高中 provide information regarding the scholarships they offer on their website or portal.
  2. Students may want to check with community service 组织, 他们的教会或宗教组织, or with 民间团体 in which they are involved to ask if they offer scholarships.
  3. A student's parent may want to check with their employer or union to determine if the employer/union offers scholarships for the dependent children of their employees.

警惕奖学金诈骗! Some of the scholarship opportunities that are offered through online scholarship searches may be scams. Keep the following tips in mind before applying for a scholarship. If you receive information stating any of the following, chances are it is a SCAM!

  2. "A scholarship is guaranteed" - No service can guarantee it will get you money.

Once you have received notification from the agency indicating the amount of the scholarship you are expecting to receive, you should forward a copy of that information to the 金融援助 Office. Private scholarships may affect your eligibility for the other financial aid programs you have already been offered. The sooner you provide a copy of the information from the agency regarding the amount of your private scholarship, the quicker the 金融援助 Office can determine if adjustments to your financial aid are necessary. If an adjustment to a student's current financial aid is necessary, the FinancialAid Office will communicate the changes to the student via a revised financial aid notification.

Outside scholarships do NOT include: tuition exchange scholarships, 任何或全部学费减免福利, ROTC或职业康复福利. These types of awards will be substituted dollar for dollar from any institutional grant eligibility, 包括优秀奖学金.

Outside scholarships that are specific所有y designated for tuition costs will be substituted dollar for dollar from the university's merit scholarships, since those are specific所有y applied to the institutional tuition, 一旦学费到位. It is important that students provide to the 金融援助 Office a copy of the notification they receive from any scholarship agency so their financial aid may be adjusted appropriately.
